was founded in 1962 as Edison Junior College and renamed FSW in 2014. This was apparently to avoid confusion with another college with a similar name also offering nationwide online courses. FSW has approximately 16,000 full and part time students.
Recently, FSW began having a farmers market on their campus, The Fort Myers Farmers Market At FSW. The market runs from 9A.M.-1P.M on Fridays during the months of October-April. I had heard this farmers market was a good one and went to check it out.
There was a fairly good crowd there,
and a really good selection of vendors, especially considering this was the market's second week. Although too numerous to mention all of them, here is some of what you'll find there.
Maveric Meats was there,
and Phil, one of the owners, was giving out samples of Piedmontese New York Strip.
It tasted even better than it looked!
Ralph's Island Seafood was there
if meat was not your thing that day.
There were a variety of bread, pizza and sandwich vendors.
had some very good looking breads and pastries.
Sweet Odin's Danish Bakery was also there for more breads and sweet treats.
had samples of her roasted beet pesto. They were also sampling smoked turkey and double cream brie in addition to English cucumber, goat cheese and beet pesto sandwiches.
The Happy Pickle was there
serving a variety of pickles and olives,
there was a vendor selling Local Honey,
in addition to someone selling Guatemalan coffees.
There were even a few food trucks selling Cuban food,
What was really striking about this farmers market was the selection of fruits and vegetables.
There was a vendor with beautiful fruits,
including Dragon Fruit, Monstera Deliciosa, Lady Finger Bananas, Rambutans ,Passion Fruit and pomegranates among many others. This was one of the best tropical fruit selections I have seen in one place in the area.
The vegetable selections were also very good. I loved all the colors, very visually appealing and they had most things anyone would want.
There were also a few non food related items such as soaps,
and even tarot readings if you wished.
This was really a great farmers market and for it being only 2 weeks old, had an amazing selection of product. I can only see it getting better and can only imagine how crowded it will be in the winter months. I hope readers will go visit one Saturday, there is some very nice produce and other things here.
