The Pig is a restaurant that an astute reader may guess, focuses on pork.
As with many parts of D.C., this used to be scary land, but has changed much in the past 10-20 years or so. As such, there is a whole foods just around the corner!
My dining companion (DC) and I went there for happy hour. They have a number of interesting things on their Happy Hour menu.
You can eat outside for their happy hour, but happy hour is extended for a bit (1 hour) if you're willing to sit inside at the bar.
DC and I sampled a number of things. The first was the hickory bbq sandwich.
Served on Egg Bread, the sweetness melded just right with the pulled pork and the restaurant's coleslaw. It was perfect and probably the best pulled pork sandwich I have ever eaten.
We then moved onto the burger,
which was 80% beef, 20% pork, Face Bacon, habanero mayo, aged Gouda and red onion Marmelade. It was really, really good.
DC and I finished off with general sous chef's chicken.
This was chicken marinated in buttermilk, fried and placed atop bean sprouts. Herbs and General Tso's Sauce finished the dish. Also really good.
This was a really great happy hour. Highly recommended. When in D.C. be sure to check it out.
That's that for another post on Forks.
