is an island in Southwest Florida. There is a iconic Lighthouse on the island that was built at the end of the 19th century. Every Sunday, from November through April, they have a Farmers' Market that runs from 8 A.M.- 1 P.M. The farmers' market is located right behind Sanibel City Hall.

confections both gluten-free and not,

pickles,

and plants.

One merchant even had organic rocks.

I was assured they were gluten-free and best steamed.

This was a really fun thing to do on a Sunday morning and a really good excuse to visit Sanibel Island. I cannot wait until the market starts up again in November.

Another fun day out and another review on Forks.

Spire Wine Tasting at The Naples Wine Collection

The Naples Wine Collection (NWC)

southwest florida forks

is a wine merchant in Naples, FL. They have been in business close to one year. They are associated with The Naples Winter Wine Festival, the largest children's wine charity in The United States. This, in part, allows them almost unprecedented local access to vintners and their wines.

That evening's tasting was part of the portfolio of The Spire Collection.

These wines, according to an owner of NWC and the Level III Sommelier from Spire that was in attendance for the event are the Creme De La Crème of California wines. I was extremely fortunate to be invited to this tasting to document it and learn about wines that normally would be very much out of my tax bracket.

The background behind these wines is interesting. They are part of a larger collection of wines, Jackson Family Wines. These were started by the vintner Jess Jackson Jr. His first brand, Kendall-Jackson (KJ), provided the impetus for the expansion of his business. KJ is one of the world's best selling wines. KJ was revolutionary when first introduced over 30 years ago as it has been credited to be the first wine to bridge lower- and higher-end wines.

Before the tasting the bottles were uncorked

Decanted by the sommelier to bring out their best

and I was given a primer on the wines served that night. Quite cool.

Assorted cheeses and meats were offered to participants.

As the evening's event built to a crescendo,

I took leave and realized how lucky we were to be able to sample wines of this caliber in Naples.

Another great evening learning about world-class wines and another review on Forks.

Happy Hour at AZN

AZN is an Asian-themed restaurant in the mixed residential-commercial space, Mercato, in Naples, FL. They also have a sister restaurant in Charlotte, NC.

They have a very nice indoor

bar

and outdoor dining area.

My dining companion (DC) and I were there for happy hour which runs daily from 3-6 P.M. They have a number of items on their happy hour menu named "R-AZN" the bar. These are mirrors of what you will find on their Dinner menu.

My dining companion and I selected a number of items to share and sample.

We ordered crispy Asian fish bites which were Panko covered Basa, which is a type of Catfish, served on a bed of greens and a Fish Sauce flavored chili-lime dipping sauce.

We also tried the Vietnamese Spring Rolls. These were filled with chicken and vegetables and were served with a chili-lime and another fish sauce-flavored dipping sauce.

Stir-fried beef and vegetable Lo Mein was brought to the table,

in addition to "Hong Kong" style lettuce wraps. This was a mixture of minced chicken, Water Chestnuts, mushrooms, crispy noodles lettuce and Hoisin Sauce on the side.

My dining companion and I found the dining area very pleasant and a good place to people watch. Additionally, our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Management also made an effort to ask how our meal was.  The food, however, was unremarkable and only made good by the happy hour prices. Yes, I would probably come back for happy hour or a beverage but not in a hurry.

That's that for another review on Forks.

34102: An Artistic and Photo Journalistic Study of One of the Most Beautiful ZIP Codes in The United States.

I frequently blog about food and food-related events in Naples, FL. I published an e-book almost 3 years ago documenting various attractions in Naples, FL, both scenic and lifestyle. For those unfamiliar with the area, it may help to give readers a better frame of reference.

I have decided to make the fruits of my labor free to those that are interested.

My e-book is available as a free download in a number of formats on  Smashwords.Com, Amazon.Com, BarnesandNoble.com and Apple i-Tunes/Books.

I hope everyone has as much enjoyment reading my e-book as I did editing it and putting it together.

Dinner at Wyld's Cafe

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORKS

is a restaurant in Bonita Springs, FL. They have a nice indoor dining space

southwest florida forks

in addition to an interesting Menu.

I was there with a group of people so I am able to talk about Wyld's offerings more than usual.

Sourdough Bread  was brought to the table, not bad.

southwest florida forks

A number or appetizers were ordered.

A BLT salad stack, which was stacked bacon, tomatoes,  and grilled french bread with an avocado blue cheese dressing,

southwest florida forks

a wedge salad, which consisted of a wedge of iceberg lettuce, bacon, tomatoes, cucumber, blue cheese and avocado blue cheese dressing,

southwest florida forks

and Escargot. I liked the presentation here as the escargot were served in a Prosciutto bowl with garlic cream sauce and Arugula.

I ordered the enigma salad. This was duck, Shiitake mushrooms, Parmesan peppercorn dressing, romaine avocado and Capers.

southwest florida forks

It was o.k. but it just did not "pop". After having this it was an enigma why I did not make a different choice.

Entrees ordered were scallops with bacon and a Beurre Blanc sauce,

tenderloin saga, or Filet Mignon topped with Demi-Glace, french fries and Saga blue cheese, a cheese from Denmark

and meat loaf served with demi-glace, mushrooms, and onion rings.

southwest florida forks

I ordered the liver, which was Veal Liver with Onions and Bacon and a demi-glace sauce.

southwest florida forks

This is a very classic, old time Recipe that has it's origins from the middle of the 19th century. It was not bad, and sure took me back.

Some of the diners at out table had a sweet tooth, and ordered a few things from the dessert menu.

Cinnamon Bread Pudding  with a pecan Praline crust with Caramel Sauce and Creme Anglaise,

chocolate cake with whipped cream and creme anglaise

and a Crepe brulee which was a crepe filled with Creme Brulee served with creme anglaise and whipped cream. I stay away from things like this but everyone that tried it was very pleased.

Everyone seemed to really like their selections. Although my salad did disappoint, sometimes you just order the wrong thing.

Would I come back, perhaps but not in a rush.

It's a wrap for another review on Forks.
