GirlTalkTV 2014 Fashion Trunk Show

GirlTalkTV is an online magazine from Southwest Florida that addresses interests and concerns of women. The TV portion comes from video links the site provides. That evening they were sponsoring a Fashion and Trunk show at The Hilton Naples.

The event was held to benefit The Garden of Hope and Courage. The garden's purpose is to be a therapeutic retreat for those with illness.  Its construction was inspired by the long-term malady of one of its originators wives who eventually passed away because of it.

The event was nicely catered by the hotel. Mini Beef Wellington with Bernaise sauce, steamed Pot Stickers with a ginger-soy sauce and assorted cheeses and fruits were provided as nibbles to the guests.

There was also a cash bar as well as champagne for those with VIP tickets.

Always having liked the high-contrast black and white fashion Photos of yesteryear, here was my golden opportunity.

As the models were getting their makeup and hair done courtesy of The Paul Mitchell School in Fort Myers, FL

DJ Andrea was setting up outside to provide music for the event.

The show was held by the hotel's pool, and attendees started to gather for the event.

Dinner at El Patio

southwest florida forks
is a Peruvian restaurant in Fort Myers, FL. They also have a restaurant in Cape Coral, FL which are both in Lee County, FL.

They have a very simple, but commodious dining space.

Their restaurant menu is extensive and has 15 pages. Here is their abbreviated, paper menu.

As seems De Rigeur in the Peruvian restaurants I have dined at, Cancha, or Peruvian corn nuts

were brought to the table as a starter.

My dining companion (DC) and I decided to split a number of items. The first was a palta rellena de mariscos or avocado stuffed with seafood and vegetables.

There were two avocados stuffed with octopus, squid, fish, peas carrots and corn and topped with a mayonnaise drizzle. Not bad.

Who could not pass up Ceviche at a Peruvian restaurant so we ordered the vuelvea la vida de mariscos.

This was an extremely generous portion of onion, cilantro, octopus, squid and fish marinated in lime juice and spices. There was in between 1-2 cups of ceviche in this dish and it was great.

We finally finished up by splitting a bowl of soup. Parihuela was brought to the table. This is a seafood stew of octopus, squid, fish and blue crab claws in a spiced broth. The portion was big enough for two.

I don't know if our palettes were affected by all the citrus in the ceviche but the soup needed a Je Ne Sais Quoi.

Two different Aji Sauces, or pepper sauces were brought to the table and were the "ticket" for the soup.

From right to left, the orange sauce was homogenized diluted Habanero Pepper while the other one was homogenized habanero pepper with cilantro and mayonnaise. Both of them were really good. I thought the food here was pretty good and would come back if not for Logistics.

Fort Myers Music Walk, Spirits of Bacchus (Closed) and The Firestone

Fort Myers Music Walk is an event that takes place every third Friday of the month. The event is held in the historic downtown River District. This is an approximately five-square block area in downtown Fort Myers, FL that was built in the early part of the Twentieth Century and has been part of an urban revitalization project since the mid 1980's.

Attendees come from all over the area

and fill the streets

to hear some of the music.

During music walk, musicians are scattered all over the River District

with other interesting area landmarks as well.

After exploring for a couple of hours, my dining companion (DC) and I had a bit of an appetite. We decided to dine at Spirits of Bacchus.

They have a very nice outside

and indoor dining area.

I decided on the cheese plate.

This was very good and came with a very generous serving of blue cheese, Manchego, Sharp Cheddar and brie. Accompaniments included slices of Baguette bread, honey, grapes, Caper Berries and an olive Tapenade.

Having perused the menu, I felt the cheese plate was not enough and ordered more.  Fish tacos were in order.

It was really too much but allowed me to comment on them. The fillings were excellent (grilled mahi-mahi) but the condiments were not. The salsa reminded me of grocery store salsa and if they had gotten that together the tacos would be the much better.

DC ordered a Cobb Salad.

Not bad. I am a big Cobb salad fan and would probably order this. The acronym is EAT COBB. Egg, avocado, tomato, chicken, onion, bacon and blue cheese!

After all this activity and food we needed a beverage. We decided on the nearby Firestone. This is a historic building that used to be a fish-packing business in the 1900's.

They have a very nice upstairs bar on their 4th floor, Skybar,

with a great view of the Caloosahatchee River.
