I recently went to visit friends in San Antonio, TX. San Antonio was first settled about 300 years ago. Knowing this then, not surprisingly, there have been a number of urban revitalization projects undertaken recently. One of them was the redevelopment of 23 acres that was once "Ground Zero" for The Pearl Brewing Company.
The brewery had been around for about 120 years before going out of business in 2001. The revitalization efforts have been a work in progress for about the past 10 years. During this time the area has morphed into a mixed residential/commercial space.
Every Saturday morning they have a farmer's market
with a variety of vendors.
After perusing the market my dining companion (DC) and I decided to eat lunch at il Sogno,
an Italian restaurant located in The Pearl complex. They have been open about 4 years.
Here was their lunch menu that day.
Inside, their kitchen is open to the restaurant
and they have a very nice dining space.
DC and I decided to sit outside as the weather was great that day.
We each ordered a glass of house-brewed ice tea.
were brought to the table. Both the tea and bread plate were outstanding.
After much reflection
DC ordered the "carnamore" pizza.
This is a "meat lovers" pizza and comes with Italian sausage, ground beef, and Mozzarella cheese.
I decided on the Insalata di Campo.
This consisted of spinach, romaine, avocado, roasted red pepper, candied pecans, Bleu and Pecorino cheeses with a roasted garlic dressing. It was not bad, but i think I would have done better with one of the pasta dishes.
They also had an Antipasto service served inside
which looked very good.
All in all a very pleasant lunch catching up with an old friend.
That's that for another review on forks.
